Yahoo Voice Chat and Webcam in Ubuntu

[ad#ad-1] GYach-E supports Voice Chat and Webcam for Yahoo! Messenger in Linux. It can be installed in most Linux distros by compilation from source. Visit the project homepage here.

Ubutnu users can install GYach-E by simply enabling repository and installing via Synaptic Package Manager.

Enabling the Repository:
Open up Synaptic Package manager. Click on Settings, Repositories.
Click on Third Party Updates tab and add the two lines one at a time according to the Ubuntu version you are using.

For Jaunty Jackalope:
deb jaunty main
deb-src jaunty main

For Intrepid Ibex
deb intrepid main
deb-src intrepid main

For Hardy Heron
deb hardy main
deb-src hardy main

For Gutsy Gibbon
deb gutsy main
deb-src gutsy main

Refreshing the software list
Click on Reload in Synaptic and wait for the list update to complete.

Installing GYachE Improved
Search for gyachi in synaptic and mark for installation, apply.


Now, Launch Gyach-E from Internet menu and enjoy.

    ^yes I forgot to share that link. As of now, no Karmic Koala version is released. For Karmic Koala, download the Juanty version deb from and then install it. It works fine.

    i tried this method w/ kubuntu intrepid ibex and all I got was a login/logout cycle that slows the crap out of my laptop…it’s a dell which I know sux w/ linux…in ubuntu II I never could get sound workin but at least in kubuntu I had sound through any speakers that would plugin…nobody has found any answerrrrs for that yet either LOL
